Lords Back Smoking In Cars Ban Amendment
The House of Lords have backed a Labour amendment that will see the introduction of a ban on smoking in cars carrying children.
Labour brought the Children and Families Bill amendment before the House of Lords on Wednesday.
Following the backing of peers, MPs have now been told that they will be given a free vote on the issue.
Opponents of the move have said that public information campaigns were preferable to a new law described as a "blunt instrument".

The House of Lords is to vote later today on an amendment to the Children and Families Bill, seeking a ban on smoking in cars carrying children. The amendment has been put forward by Labour, who have said that if it is not passed by the Lords today, they will include it in its next election manifesto.

Terror Bill faces more opposition in House of Lords
The government's controversial Prevention of Terrorism Bill faces more opposition after the House of Lords voted for an amendment to the Bill. The peers voted 249 to 119 in favour of an amendment, which stated that judges should be responsible for issuing all control orders.

Peer-To-MP 'Cool Off' Period
Constitutional reform, which would allow life peers to resign, will be amended to ensure former lords cannot stands as MPs for five years. According to reports, Justice Secretary Jack Straw, who is heading up Parliamentary changes, will introduce a "cooling off" period to ensure ex-lords cannot automatically contest a Commons seat.

Appeal Launched For Bulger Memorial
The mother of murdered toddler James Bulger has launched an appeal for a memorial to him. An appeal to raise £1 million for the James Bulger House Appeal to set up a refuge for bullied children, called the Red Balloon Leaner Centre was launched on Friday by Jamie's mother, Denise Fergus ahead of what would have been her son's 18th birthday.
