Somerset Level Dredging To Begin 'As Soon As It Is Safe'
Work on dredging the Somerset Levels is expected to get underway at the end of March or "as soon as it is safe and practical to do so", the Environment Agency has said.
The agency has said that "key stretches" of the waterway have been identified by locals, with dredging planned for a five mile stretch where the Tone and Parrett meet at Burrowbridge and on a 200m section of the River Parrett north of Coates Farm.
It is claimed that dredging these ares will provide the best chance of reducing the risk of future flooding.
