Motor Safety Review Over Jim Clark Rally Deaths
Scottish Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill has announced a review of motorsport safety after three spectators were killed at the Jim Clark Rally in the Borders last Saturday at Little Swinton at 16:00.
Two of the victims were from Barrhead; Iain John Provan, 64, and Elizabeth Allan, 63 ,while the third John Leonard Stern, 71, was from Bearsden.
Mr MacAskill said Scotland has a "proud history" in the world of motorsport but that lessons had to be learned from the incidents.
He also revealed that the inquiry would involve Police Scotland, the Motor Sports Association, Scottish Borders Council and other "key stakeholders".
Malaysia Search Area Reduced For Missing British Trekker
The team looking for British backpacker Gareth Huntley, who went missing while trekking on Tioman Island in Malaysia on Tuesday, said the search has been narrowed to a smaller area.
Johari Jahaya, who leads the rescue team, said they could reduce the area being searched and recognised that 39 people are looking for him.
Mr Huntley's mother Janet Southwell, who arrived in Malaysia on Monday, said she wanted to join the search for her son.
The 34-year-old from Cricklewood, north London set off to visit a waterfall on the island, off the south-eastern coast of the country's mainland and told his friends he would be back at the charity project where he was volunteering by 14:00, but failed to return.
The British Government said "all available search assets" were involved in the hunt, including police officers and rescue teams.
Two Men Arrested Over Essex Park Stabbing
Two men have been held in connection with the death of James Attfield, a 33-year-old father-of-five who was stabbed more than 100 times in March in a park in Essex.
Mr Attfield suffered a brain injury after being hit by a car four years before being found death near Castle Park in Colchester in the early hours of the morning on March 29 with more than 100 wound of stabbing on his arms, hands, back, neck and head.
Two men aged 33 are being held in connection with Mr Attfield's death and in suspicion of involvement in another attack on Colchester on Saturday.
Mr Attfield's mother said he was rebuilding his life when he was killed.

Malaysia Increases Briton Search
Paramilitary commandos, sniffer dogs and five helicopters are searching the British backpacker Gareth Huntley who went missing in the Malaysian jungle a week ago.. Mr Huntley, originally from West Yorkshire, has not been seen since Tuesday after he went trekking.

Life For Gardening Murderer
A gardener has been jailed for life after being found guilty of the murder of 54-year-old Lynda Casey from Coulsdon in Surrey. Ms Casey's body was found by police search teams in an area of Banstead Woods in Surrey known as Great Solom’s Wood on 13 August 2009. A post mortem examination showed she had suffered multiple head injuries.

Four Men 'Admit Killing' British Students In Malaysia
The two British men killed in Malaysia have been named as Neil Dalton and Aidan Brunger. The men, both aged 22, were medical students at Newcastle University. The Foreign Office reported on Wednesday that two Britons had been killed in an incident in Borneo.
