Birmingham City Council To Cut Thousands More Jobs
Birmingham City Council has announced that it will cut a further 6,000 over the next four years.
The council say that by the end of the job cuts the total workforce at the council will be reduced to 7,000 full-time staff.
Council leader Sir Albert Bore has blamed the job cuts on an "unfair distribution of national government cuts", according to a report by the BBC.

Birmingham City Council must make £600m in savings by 2017, with £120m in the next financial year, council bosses have said. This comes after cuts of £62m to the Labour-run authority's 2012-13 budget were voted for in February with warnings that 1,100 jobs could go.

Manchester City Council To Cut 2,000 Jobs
Due to government spending cuts, Manchester City Council are to cut 2,000 jobs. After changes to local authority grants left a huge hole in the Labour-run council's finances, a 17% reduction in the workforce will need to be implemented. Between now and 2012, officers will need to “quickly” find £110m of savings, £60m more than expected last year.

Birmingham City Council Reveal 20-Year City Plan
A new £4 billion transport plan for Birmingham has been revealed by the city's council. The 20-year Birmingham Connected scheme proposes three tram lines for the city, a high-speed bus route, the reopening of rail lines and the construction of two new stations.

Wolverhampton City Council To Cut 1,000 Jobs
Wolverhampton City Council has said 1,000 council jobs could be cut by 2015. It added that it has "no choice" but to make the large scale budget cuts which will impact on both services and jobs in the area. Council Leader Roger Lawrence has described the news as "a dark day for Wolverhampton".

An investigation has been launched into an alleged takeover plot of Birmingham schools by hard-line Islamists. It is understood that the investigation is now looking at 25 schools in relation to the allegations, with Birmingham City Council saying that they have received more than 200 reports relating to the investigation.
