Lauener Appointed Chief Executive Of SFA
Mr Peter Lauener has been appointed the Chief Executive of the Skills Funding Agency.
He will take up his role on Monday 3rd November 2014 and will retain his post as the Chief Executive of the Education Funding Agency (EFA) with separate accountability for each agency’s budget.
Mr Lauener said: "I am delighted to take on this role and am looking forward to the challenge of making a difference in the skills sector. I have a long-standing interest and commitment to apprenticeships and skills and I am keen to be involved in the next stage of reform."
Power Station Closes £1.35bn Debt Facility
Battersea Power Station has declared the closure of a syndicated debt facility totalling £1.35 billion.
The financing, which is one of the largest real estate financing transactions in recent years, comprises:
• a £750m facility to fund the development of the Power Station building;
• £600m facility to fund the development of London’s newest high street, Electric Boulevard, comprising buildings designed by Gehry Partners and Foster + Partners.
CIMB, Maybank and Standard Chartered Bank are acting as Mandated Lead Arrangers, Book runners and Joint Co-ordinators. DBS, NBAD, OCBC and RHB are participating as primary syndicate members.
Refurbishment work on the Power Station, including replacement of the chimneys, is progressing well. Main construction work on the Power Station will commence in Q1 2015 at the same time as the start of construction of the Northern Line Extension, including the Zone 1 station at Battersea Power Station.
Man Charged Over M6 Collision
A Birmingham man has today been charged with causing the death of a man on the M6 during a collision in July.
James Barrett, of Triumph Walk, Castle Bromwich is accused of causing the death of 33-year-old Haroon Raja by dangerous driving.
The 33-year-old is also charged with causing serious injury to lorry driver Mark Berry by driving dangerously.
He is accused of being the driver of an Audi Q7 when it was in collision with a large goods vehicle on the M6 motorway near Coleshill on 6th July 2014 at approximately 4:50am.
He is due to appear before Birmingham Magistrates’ Court on 20th November 2014.

Eggborough Power Station May Cease Operations
Eggborough Power Station may have to cease generating power by March 2016, subject to consultations with staff and government bodies. The coal-fired power station requires additional funding of £200m over the next three years to continue generating power, which the company says is "financially unsustainable" for the 53-year-old plant.

Legal Challenge On New Power Station
Campaigners have lodged papers at the Court of Session in Edinburgh which may halt the construction of a new power station in Ayrshire, it has been reported. Action group, Communities Opposed to New Coal at Hunterston (Conch), has appealed for a judicial review of the plans for the coal-fired power station at Hunterston.

Fault Shuts Down Nuclear Reactor In Morecambe
EDF Energy has shut down one of its nuclear reactors due to a fault. The company confirmed that one of two reactors at Heysham Power Station in Morecambe was taken off line on Tuesday after a water leak was discovered.

Study links power lines to childhood leukaemia
Children who live near power lines are more likely to develop leukaemia, a team of scientists has claimed. Researchers from Oxford University found that children who lived within 200 metres of high voltage power lines had a 70% higher chance of developing leukaemia than those children who lived more than 600 metres away from the power cables.

Cockenzie Power Station To Be Demolished
Details regarding the demolition of the former Cockenzie Power Station site have been released. A controlled explosive demolition will take place at noon on Saturday 26 September which will involve the twin chimney stacks at the site being razed to the ground.
