Fault Shuts Down Nuclear Reactor In Morecambe
EDF Energy has shut down one of its nuclear reactors due to a fault.
The company confirmed that one of two reactors at Heysham Power Station in Morecambe was taken off line on Tuesday after a water leak was discovered.
It is understood the leak was found in a turbine in a non-nuclear part of the plant, however the company took the reactor offline as a precaution. A company spokesperson could not confirm when the reactor would be operational again.
The plant was closed in August 2014 after a routine inspection also discovered a fault. A reactor was also shut down in May 2013 following reports of smoke from the plant.
