British Police Will Not Be Sent To Calais - Govt Confirms
The government has rejected calls for it to send British police to Calais, saying that security on French soil was "a matter for the French".
It comes after the French interior minister suggested that British police could be "useful" in helping French authorities tackle Calais' "tremendous problem" with illegal immigration.
Britain has previously pledged £12m to bolster security at Calais, as part of a plan announced in September by Theresa May. MP James Brokenshire said that while the Home Secretary's plan had been to encourage the two countries to work more closely together, British police would not be sent to Calais.
