Options for creating Gibraltar's first MEPs considered

The Electoral Commission are to carry out a consultation to decide the region in England and Wales with which Gibraltar should be combined for future elections to the European Parliament.

Using broad criteria, including transport and commercial links, geographical proximity and common interests, the Commission will consider joining Gibraltar with one of 10 regions in England and Wales.

The people of Gibraltar and in the UK have been invited to respond to a number of questions contained within the consultation document, before the Commission makes public its final recommendations on August 28 in Gibraltar.

Gibraltar, along with other UK protectorates such as The Isle Of Man, is currently unrepresented within the European Parliament.

The historic deal - the first time that the UK, Spain and Gibraltar have reached an agreement on the Rock - tackles some of the key aspects in Gibraltar, but does not resolve the main issue of sovereignty.

Man In Court Over Mother-Of-Four Murder
A man has been remanded in custody, charged with murdering a mother-of-four. Trevor Mark Ferguson, 49, of Gorsworth Road, Sale in Cheshire, is accused of murdering 50-year-old Karen McGraw, on Thursday evening. Ms McGraw died in the Countess of Chester Hospital shortly after police were called to her home in Tecwyn Drive, Connahs Quay, North Wales.

Hodgson Expected To Be New England Manager
Roy Hodgson is expected to be the new England manager. West Bromich Albion granted permission for The FA to speak with Roy regarding the position. This follows an approach from FA Chairman David Bernstein to West Bromwich Albion Chairman Jeremy Peace.
