Man And Daughter Survive Suspected Gas Explosion
A 36-year-old man and his 4-year-old daughter have survived a suspected gas explosion at their home in Southampton.
Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service said the end-of-terrace house in Howards Grove, in the Shirley area, was destroyed in an explosion at about 01:30 on Tuesday morning.
It is understood the man and child were rescued from the rubble by neighbours before fire crews arrived. They were taken to hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries, but have since been discharged.
"It's quite a scene - the fact that the people who were inside the property had been rescued by local residents prior to our arrival is nothing short of a miracle," Station Manager with Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service Steve Buchanan-Lee said.
An investigation into the exact cause of the fire is underway and an exclusion zone has been established.
