Rescue Teams Find Body In Missing Tourist Hunt
Rescue teams searching for a missing 48-year-old man have found a body.
Cockermouth Mountain Rescue Team discovered the remains while searching for Simon Bally of Stoke-on-Trent, at the head of the Buttermere Valley on Tuesday.
The disappearance of Mr Bally, who was known to scramble and hill walk, had sparked a major search operation across north Cumbria and the Lake District.
Mr Bally had been due to meet his partner at Penrith station on Monday to begin a holiday in the area, but never showed up.
Police said it was out of character for him not to meet at arranged times and that he had not been seen by family or friends since Saturday.
Cumbria Constabulary had earlier made an appeal for information about Mr Bally.
His car was found at a car park near Gatesgarth Pass at about 5.15pm yesterday and the mountain rescue team found the body about three hours later.
It is reported that Mr Balley owned a property in Kelvinside, Glasgow.
A spokesman for Cumbria Constabulary said the man has not been formally identified.
