US soldier dies following explosion in Iraqi capital

A US soldier has been killed by an explosive device in Iraq, a US Central Command spokesperson has confirmed.

The soldier, from the 1st Armored Division, was killed in an explosion in the Karadah District of Baghdad at around at 2pm yesterday.

The soldier was evacuated to the 28th Combat Support Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 3:15pm.

This latest incident brings to 61 the number of US personnel who have been killed since President Bush declared an end to hostilities on May 1.

The Ministry of Defence has confirmed the name of a British soldier killed in a bomb explosion in Iraq on Sunday. Major Matthew Bacon, 34, from the London area, was travelling in an armoured landrover in Basra, southern Iraq, when a roadside bomb exploded, hitting the vehicle.

Tributes have been paid to the British soldier killed in a bomb attack in Iraq at the weekend. Sergeant John ‘Jonah’ Jones, 31, from the 1st Battalion the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers, died from injuries sustained in a roadside bomb attack in the southern Iraq city of Basra on Sunday.

MoD names British soldier killed in Iraq
The Ministry of Defence has named the British soldier killed by a roadside bomb in Iraq on Tuesday night. Sergeant Christian Hickey, of the 1st Battalion the Coldstream Guards, died as a result of his injuries, following the explosion, which took place around 11:23 local time in Basra on Tuesday night.

British Soldier Killed In Helmand Explosion
A British soldier has died in a bomb blast in Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence has confirmed. The serviceman, from the Royal Marines Armoured Support Group, was killed while travelling in a Viking vehicle near Lashkar Gah, in Helmand Province.

British Soldier Killed In Afghanistan
A British soldier has been killed while on routine patrol duties in southern Afghanistan yesterday. The soldier from the Royal Logistics Corps was killed in a contact explosion near Musa Quleh in Helmand the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has confirmed. The cause of the explosion is being investigated.
