Level 3 'Amber' Weather Warning Issued
The Met Office has issued a Level 3 warning for cold weather and icy conditions for the next three days across England.
According to the forecaster, an amber warning is triggered when "we are experiencing weather which breaches any of the thresholds. This stage requires social and healthcare services to target specific actions at high-risk groups". These 'high risk groups' include the very young, the very old and those with chronic diseases.
The weather warning states: "There is a 90% probability of severe cold weather/icy conditions between 1100 on Sunday and 1200 on Thursday in parts of England. This weather could increase the health risks to vulnerable patients and disrupt the delivery of services.
"Large areas of England will experience colder than average conditions in the coming week, with widespread overnight frosts. Some wintry precipitation is expected for most areas too, mostly in the form of scattered showers, leading to lying snow and icy stretches."
The Met Office added that it continually monitors the situation and will issue updates accordingly.
