Profits Down 52% At Manchester United

Revenue at Manchester United fell by 12.2% in the six months to December, the club has reported.

The club said that revenue for the six months until the end of December last year closed at £194.4m. It said the fall is due to lost payments from Nike when it failed to qualify for the Uefa Champions League.

The club also reported profits had fallen by 52% to £8.9m, due to a "sharp fall" in broadcast and match-day revenue.

Man Jumps Naked From Flat To Escape Fire

A man has escaped a burning building by jumping naked onto the roof of a double-decker bus.

It is understood that the man was taking a shower in the flat above shops on High Street in Braintree, when a fire broke out.

Passersby in the street below flagged down the bus, which drove close to the building enabling the man to jump onto its roof.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway.

Delays After Lorry Crash On M27

Major delays are expected after a lorry crashed into the central reservation on the M27 in Hampshire.

The Highways Agency has warned drivers of delays following the incident on Thursday.

Lane three on both sides of the carriageway have been closed and police said that they expect them to remain closed all day.

Stockport Furniture Store Collapses Into Street
A Stockport furniture store has collapsed into the street without warning, crushing a car. According to reports at around 19:00 the upper floors of the building fell onto Little Underbank, leaving just a chimney wall and part of the ground floor of the furniture store standing.

British Toddler In 'Serious' Condition After Balcony Fall
A British toddler is in intensive care after falling from a hotel balcony at a popular resort in Spain. One-year-old Daniel Betley, from Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire, fell 16ft from the first floor balcony of the Hotel Best on Tuesday. The toddler was on holiday with his mother and grandparents in Cambrils on Costa Dorada.

Nineteen staff fall ill following 'unusual smell' at hospital
A London hospital which was forced to close its accident and emergency unit when eight employees fell ill because of an "unusual smell" has admitted that 11 other workers became unwell two days earlier. The A&E unit at London's Royal Free Hospital was forced to close for six hours on Wednesday after eight members of staff fell ill.

Sir Bobby to undergo brain surgery
Former England manager Sir Bobby Robson is to undergo surgery to remove a brain tumour on Wednesday. The 73-year-old, who led England to the semi-finals of the World Cup in 1990, fell ill while watching a match at former club Ipswich Town, where he is now club president, on August 5.

Drug trial pair released from hospital
Two of the six men who were hospitalised after a drugs trial went wrong have been allowed to return home. Doctors at Northwick Park Hospital said that the two men had responded "very well" to treatment and had made an "excellent recovery". However, four men remain in hospital.
