British Toddler In 'Serious' Condition After Balcony Fall
A British toddler is in intensive care after falling from a hotel balcony at a popular resort in Spain.
One-year-old Daniel Betley, from Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire, fell 16ft from the first floor balcony of the Hotel Best on Tuesday.
The toddler was on holiday with his mother and grandparents in Cambrils on Costa Dorada.
He was flown 100km by helicopter to the Vall d'Hebron Hospital in Barcelona with head injuries.
A spokesman for the hospital says the boy's condition is "stable but serious" and he will remain in hospital "for several days at least".
The manager of the hotel, who did not wish to be identified, said that "staff were first alerted when they heard screaming".
It is thought that the boy has sustained a fractured skull and his mother, Louise, in her 20s, and her parents, are keeping a bedside vigil.
Neighbours of Miss Betley, a single mother of three children, say she had gone on holiday with her parents at the start of the week.
