Council Approves New Stonehenge Coach Park
Wiltshire Council has granted planning permission for a new 26-space coach park at Stonehenge.
Farmland next to an existing coach park will be converted by English Heritage into new parking spaces and pedestrian walkways.
It is understood that a condition of the planning approval is that the land can be returned to its original state.
The council had previously rejected a proposal to resurface an overflow car park on the grounds of its visual impact on the landscape.
Welcoming the news English Heritage said: "We are very pleased that our application to Wiltshire County Council for planning permission to provide additional temporary parking spaces in the coach park at Stonehenge has been approved.
"Enormous care was taken in preparing the application, in consultation with planners, designers and stakeholders. The extra parking spaces for coaches will accommodate peak-season demand at Stonehenge and we hope will help to address some of the concerns of local stakeholders.
"We are still reviewing our options regarding resurfacing the existing overflow car park so it could be used in all weather conditions. We hope to work closely with local councillors to find a solution that works for us all."
