Body Found In Hunt For Missing Amber Peat
Police searching for a teenager who had been missing for three days have confirmed a body has been found.
Amber Peat, 13, was last seen at her home in Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, on Saturday.
Formal identification of the body is still to take place, but police have said the death is not being treated as suspicious. A post-mortem is due to be carried out later.
In a statement, Nottinghamshire Police said the body was discovered on Tuesday evening, near a path about a mile from Amber's home. Officers remain at the scene today and enquiries are continuing.
Amber's family have been informed and have asked for privacy.
During an emotional appeal on Tuesday, 2 June, Amber's mother and stepfather described the teenager's disappearance as "completely out of character".
The family had just returned from holiday.
Mr Peat, Amber's stepfather, said during yesterday's press conference: "We had just all had a brilliant holiday. It's just not right. We told her to clean a cool box out that we had had sandwiches in for the journey home.
"It was a chore, basically, and I'm sure all teenagers are the same, she didn't want to do a chore. That was the last conversation."
His wife added: "We were in the living room and I heard the front door slam. I heard the door and when I went out I couldn't see her anywhere. She had just gone."
They also confirmed Amber had left the property without money or a mobile phone.
