Unexploded WWII Shell Uncovered In White Chapel

An unexploded World War II shell uncovered on a building site in White Chapel has been made safe.

The device, said to be around 13.5 inches in length and about 6 inches wide, was uncovered just before midday on Wednesday.

Firefighters and police were called to the scene where an exclusion zone of 400 meters was established while the device was examined.

The scene was declared safe at 12:43.

RAF Men Killed In Afghanistan
Two RAF servicemen have been killed in Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has confirmed. The men were killed when an explosive device hit the vehicle they were travelling in during a routine patrol in the Kandahar Province on Sunday.

A hotel receptionist at Heathrow airport who hid in a bed for two days after killing two of his colleagues has been found guilty of their murder. 32-year-old Attila Ban, stabbed and killed Tibor Vass and Alice Adams in the Radisson Edwardian Hotel's staff accommodation last August.

Armed Man Shot By Police
A man in his 40's has been shot by police officers following reports that a man was armed and intending to harm himself and others in Knaphill, Woking. Officers from the Surrey Police attended an address in Oak Tree Road just after 10pm last night. He has been taken to St George's Hospital in Tooting where he is being treated.
