Lord Sewell Resigns Over Drugs Scandal
Senior peer Lord John Sewell has resigned as the Lords Deputy speaker after he was filmed allegedly taking drugs with prostitutes in his London flat.
The 69-year-old Baron has also resigned as chairman of the Lords privileges and conduct committee.
The video footage, released by The Sun newspaper on 26 July, shows Lord Sewell snorting powder through a £5 note with two sex workers.
It is understood the Police are now investigating the allegations.
Lords Speaker Baroness D'Souza condemned Lord Sewell's behaviour, describing it as 'shocking and unacceptable'.
She said: "These serious allegations will be referred to the House of Lords Commissioner for Standards and the Metropolitan Police for investigation as a matter of urgency."

Lord Strathclyde Resigns As Lords Leader
The Leader of the House of Lords has announced he will retire in order to pursue a career in business. Lord Strathclyde told Prime Minister David Cameron he would voluntarily retire from the Lords at the age of 52, after 25 years on the front bench for the Conservatives. He will be replaced by Lord Hill of Oareford, a former aide of John Major.

Warrington To Host New Hillsborough Inquest
The new inquest into the Hillsborough disaster will be held in Warrington, coroner Lord Justice Goldring has said. The fresh inquest into the deaths of 96 people will begin on March 31, following an order made in December when the High Court quashed the original verdicts of accidental death. Details of the venue are to be announced at a later date.
