Humberside Airport Reopens Following Alert

Humberside Airport has reopened following a security alert.

At around 10.45am on Monday, the airport was evacuated after a "suspicious package" was found in a vehicle left in the car park. Flights were diverted as a precaution, while the A18 was closed both ways at Kirmington.

An investigation determined it was a false alarm.

The airport reopened at around 2pm.

Vintage Spitfire Makes Emergency Landing

A Spitfire plane has been forced to make an emergency landing in a field in Woodchurch, near Ashford.

The incident happened shortly before 10am on Monday, 7 September.

It is understood the pilot managed to escape the plan before emergency services arrived on the scene. He was assessed by paramedics.

Kent Fire and Rescue Service has said some of its team remains at the scene to make it safe as they are "dealing with a leak of a large quantity of aviation fuel."

No further casualties have been reported.

A reason for the crash is not yet known.

Former Dragons' Den Star Charged With Child Sex Offences

Douglas Richard, who was an original member of TV's Dragons' Den, has been charged with child sex offences.

The 57-year-old has been charged with three counts of sexual activity with a child, and one of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.

The alleged offences took place on 2 January 2015, and relate to one victim, who was aged 13 at the time, the Crown Prosecution Service has said.

Richard is due to appear at City of London Magistrates' Court on 5 October.

Police Granted Warrant To Hold Terror Suspects
Police have been granted more time to question two men suspected of terrorism offences relating to activities in Syria. Two 21-year-old men were arrested on Monday at Heathrow Airport after arriving on a flight from Istanbul. It is understood that the men are from Handsworth in Birmingham.

New figures have suggested escalating child obesity in the UK is beginning to level off, however, rates are still too high, according to the government. The National Child Measurement Programme suggested families are benefiting from knowing the facts about their child's weight.
