Officer Arrested Over Fake Kidnapping Plot

A Birmingham police officer has been suspended with immediate effect following his arrest in connection with an alleged plot to kidnap an officer.

The 29-year-old officer was arrested alongside two other men on conspiracy to pervert the course of justice and conspiracy to commit misconduct in a public office.

PC Amar Tasaddiq Hussain, working for Birmingham West & Central police unit, was charged with two counts of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice and two counts of conspiracy to commit misconduct in a public office.

Two other men - 25-year-old Adil Bashir, who is unemployed and from Small Heath, and 30-year-old Muhammad Sheikh, a self-employed tutor from Bordesley Green - have also been charged with the same four offences.

All have been released on police bail to appear at Cannock Magistrates Court on 7 October 2015.

The arrests follow an investigation into false and malicious information given to West Midlands Police on 08 December 2014 in which it was claimed an officer was to be kidnapped as part of a terrorist plot.

Police said the threat was considered credible and action was taken swiftly to protect officers and police staff - but an investigation revealed the call was false and malicious.

A 31-year-old man arrested on the day of the offence was eliminated from enquiries and has since been deported by Border Officials.

The investigation is being led by officers from West Midland Police’s Anti-Corruption Unit with support from the Counter Terrorism Unit.
