Prison Officer Charged In Operation Elveden Investigation
A former prison officer has pleaded guilty to misconduct in public office following an investigation by Operate Elveden.
Joseph De Souza, 51, pleaded guilty to selling four stories to a journalist working for The Mirror newspaper for a total of £950.
Some of the information De Souza provided concerned a high profile female prisoner and resulted in four published articles, between March 2007 and February 2009.
Detective Chief Superintendent Gordon Briggs, leading on Elveden, said: "De Souza leaked confidential information obtained in the course of his duties to a journalist for private gain. He was not a whistleblower and his corrupt activity was motivated by money.
"De Souza breached the trust that was placed in him by the public without reasonable excuse or justification. His dishonest actions damaged the public interest and merit criminal sanction."
De Souza will be sentenced at the Old Bailey on 9 October.

83rd Arrest Made In Operation Elveden
A 49-year-old man has been arrested in north London on suspicion of misconduct in a public office and conspiracy to commit misconduct in a public office. The former prison officer is the 83rd person to be detained by the Met's Operation Elveden, set up to investigate illegal payments made to public officials.
