British Troops To Be Sent To Baltic Region
The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has confirmed around 100 British troops are to be sent to the Baltic Region. An additional 25 are to be involved in a continuing training mission in Ukraine, it is understood.
Defence Secretary Michael Fallon has said that troops in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, would deter aggression from Russia beyond Ukraine, as well as reassure eastern European Nato members.
The announcement was made as a Nato meeting gets underway in Brussels. Expected on the agenda, is Russia's increasing military involvement in the Syria conflict.
Nato states have recently voiced concerns over the country's support for separatist rebels in eastern Ukraine, as well as Russia's bombing campaign in Syria.
