12-Year-Old Girl Missing In South Shields

Police have appealed for help to trace 12-year-old Carys McTavy, who has been missing since around 14:00 on Wednesday.

She has not been seen since left her home in Lincoln Road in South Shields. She was due to catch a bus to visit Tile Sheds Farm.

It's believed she may have been seen by friends later in the day at Whiteleas Bridge with another girl and two boys.

She is described as 5ft 1inch tall, slim build, shoulder length hair that is a blonde/brown colour and was tied back in a ponytail. She was wearing black leggings, a purple zip up hoody and black trainers.

Carys has not been missing before and officers are concerned for her welfare.

Anyone who has information about where she is, or has seen her, should get in contact with Northumbria Police on 101 ext 69191 quoting reference 1178 211015.

Witness Appeal Over Collision Between Cyclist And Van

Police have appealed for witnesses to a collision involving a cyclist and a van in Fulham on Thursday morning.

A female cyclist collided with a van at the junction of Fulham Palace Road and Lillie Road at about 09:40.

She is being treated in hospital, there is no information on her condition.

It is understood that a witness was also taken to hospital after being treated for shock.

Uxbridge Fire Extinguished After Four Days

A waste wood fire in Uxbridge has been fully extinguished after four days, London Fire Brigade has reported.

The large blaze involved 4,000 tonnes of waste wood at a premises on New Years Green Lane, Harefield, and started on Saturday, 17 October.

Station Manager Gareth Cook who was at the scene, said:

"Firefighters worked hard to bring the fire under control, but this was a protracted incident with crews remaining at the scene until Wednesday to ensure the fire was completely out."

Fire crews left the scene on Wednesday. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Heroic Tyne Firemen Honoured
Two Tyne and Wear firefighters are to be recognised for their bravery at a special ceremony today. Andrew Nelson and Allan Richardson will be presented with the Chief Fire Officer's Commendations for brave and meritorious conduct after saving a man's life. The men took part in a dramatic rescue in the early hours of 4 February.

Firefighters launch four-day strike
More than 1,000 firefighters across Merseyside have begun a four-day strike in protest over planned job cuts. Another four-day stoppage is scheduled to begin two hours after the first one ends.

Suspicious Glasgow Car Fires
Detectives in Glasgow's East End are investigating a spate of vehicle fire attacks in the city yesterday. Shortly after 3.30am police were called to a report of a vehicle fire in Ashvale Crescent, Glasgow. Upon arrival police were advised by Strathclyde Fire Service that four vehicles had been damaged by fire.

Chief Fire Officer Resigns Over Child Porn Arrest
A top fire officer for the West Midlands Fire Service has resigned after he was arrested on suspicion of making indecent images of children. West Midlands Police arrested Frank Sheehan, 55, yesterday at his home in Sutton Coldfield.
