Bomb alerts as Princess Royal visits Dublin
Dublin was disrupted by a bomb alert today as Princess Anne visited the city to meet with the Irish President Mary McAleese and attend a number of engagements.
The Princess Royal attended a presentation ceremony for Cork Dry Gin sailing awards at the Old Jameson distillery in Smithfield.
However, the visit was marred by a series of bomb alerts across Dublin. Garda are investigating a series of hoaxes that are believed to be related to the unofficial Royal visit.
A controlled explosion was carried out on a suspect device in Ducks Lane in the Smithfield area of the Irish capital. The suspect bomb proved to be a hoax.
Earlier the Princess Royal met President McAleese at Áras an Uachtaráin in what was described as a "courtesy call" before going on to visit the Army Equitation School at McKee Barracks.
