13 British soldiers injured in Iraq blasts
Thirteen British soldiers have been injured in two bomb blasts in Basra, it has been reported today.
According to the BBC, none of the men is believed to have suffered life-threatening injuries during the incidents which in the southern Iraqi city occurred this morning.
The soldiers have been evacuated to the Shaibah military hospital.
In a day of widespread unrest in the country, a US soldier and two Finnish businessmen are also understood to have been killed in separate incidents.

Two British Soldiers Killed Are Named
Two British soldiers killed in an explosion in Afghanistan have been named by the Ministry of Defence. Private Ben Ford, 18, and Private Damian Wright, 23, were both from the 2nd Battallion The Mercian Regiment. They were taking part in a routine reassurance patrol when the WMIK Landrover vehicle they were travelling in was caught in an explosion.

Three British soldiers have been killed in southern Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence has confirmed. A fourth soldier was seriously injured. The MoD said that the troops were part of the 4,000-strong Nato-led International Security Assistance Force on patrol in the volatile Helmand Province around 0630 GMT when they were attacked.

The Ministry of Defence has confirmed the death of the British soldier from 1st Battalion The Royal Anglian Regiment in Afghanistan on Saturday 11 August 2007. Since the military operation in Afghanistan began, 70 British soldiers have lost their lives.

Army chief blasts Ministry of Defence pay
General Sir Mike Jackson has roundly criticised army pay and conditions during the annual BBC Dimbleby lecture. Sir Mike, who retired as the head of the army in August, said pay was "hardly impressive" and that conditions in some of the accommodation were "shaming." He said that as he was now a civilian he was entitled to have his say in public.
