Carr receives thee-year sentence for fraud and deception
Maxine Carr has been handed down a three-year community rehabilitation order at Nottingham Crown Court after she pleaded guilty of a series of fraud and deception charges.
Carr, 27, who is currently nearing the end a three-year sentence for a conviction relating to charges brought for conspiring to pervert the course of justice with Soham child killer Ian Huntley, is expected to be released from jail next week.
The former classroom assistant pleaded guilty to multiple charges relating to benefit fraud, income support, and jobseekers allowance infringements and a number of deception charges relating to false statements made in job applications. The charges relate to a period between April 1996 and August 2002.
On release, Carr will be subject to a three-year rehabilitation programme to be administered by the National Probation Service.
The arrangements for Carr's release from jail are being finalised. Though the details will not be made public, there has been speculation that she may return to Grimsby under police guard for her own protection.
If she is granted a new identity, her name and address would be kept secret with the possibility of applying for a court order that would impose a lifetime ban on her identity, and that of any children she had, being revealed.
