Ninth body recovered from Glasgow factory
The body of a ninth person has been found at the Glasgow factory which was destroyed by an explosion on Tuesday afternoon.
Rescuers believe that they have now recovered all the bodies from the Stockline Plastics building.
Strathclyde police chief superintendent David Christie announced at 11.45am today that the body of a man had been recovered from the site. Rescuers are now "100%" sure that the whole site has been searched thoroughly.
The blast at the Stockline Plastics factory in Grovepark Street, Maryhill, on Tuesday afternoon destroyed the four-storey building – killing nine and injuring 30 others.
Scotland's First Minister Jack McConnell has said that there will be a full investigation into the circumstances of the tragedy. It is thought at this early stage that a fault in an industrial oven may have been the cause of the explosion.
According to Strathclyde police yesterday, one person who was in a serious condition at the Southern General is now in a stable condition. However, three people remain in "serious condition" at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary. Five others are in a stable condition while one has been discharged following treatment.
Mr McConnell also praised the "fantastic" response of the emergency services and the professionalism and dedication of all the NHS staff who played their part in treating the injured.
