Thief returns £100,000 in missing cash to bank
London police are trying to track down a thief who stole £115,000 from a cash machine, only to return most of the cash within a week.
The cash was stolen from a cash machine located in a bank at Barkingside High Street in east London between May 21 and May 22 this year. However, surprised bank staff contacted police on May 28 to say that a bin bag stuffed with around £104,000 in bank notes had been found on the bank premises.
Police confirmed that the thief had smashed a window inside the bank to gain access to the cash machine during the night.
It is understood that police have interviewed staff at the branch as investigations into the incident continue.
It is believed that the thief may have had a key to the bank as there were no signs of a forced entry.
