David Bowie in heart scare
Music chameleon David Bowie has undergone an emergency heart operation following a health scare in Germany.
The 57-year-old singer interrupted his European tour to undergo surgery to treat "an acutely blocked artery".
His publicist confirmed that Bowie is currently recuperating at his home in New York and that his decision to cancel 11 European dates last month was a result of his surgery.
In a message released through his official website Bowie said he was looking forward to getting back on tour.
"Can't wait to be fully recovered and get back to work again. I tell you what, though, I won't be writing a song about this one," he said.
Bowie's spokesman said the singer had sought treatment for what was thought to a be a pinched nerve in his shoulder after performing at a festival in the north-western German town of Scheessel.
However, following tests doctors discovered he had an acutely blocked artery requiring an emergency angioplasty procedure.

Rihanna Cancels Three UK Concerts
R&B singer Rihanna has been forced to pull out of three UK shows. The 19-year-old Barbados-born singer had been due to play at the NEC Arena in Birmingham tonight, but was forced to cancel the gig on doctor's orders. A planned concert in Bournemouth on Tuesday has also been cancelled, while a concert in Nottingham on Saturday was also called off.

Singer Marianne Faithfull has been diagnosed with breast cancer. The 59-year-old singer has rescheduled a world tour, which was due to kick-off next month, until next year. Her publicist Rob Partridge said in a statement: "The disease has been quickly discovered by doctors in France. The prognosis for a return to full health is excellent.
