Arrests made in grave theft investigation
Two people have been arrested over the theft of an 82-year-old Staffordshire woman's remains from a grave.
The body of Gladys Hammond was taken from St Peter's Churchyard in Yoxall, near Burton, in early October last year.
Mrs Hammond was the mother-in-law of Christopher Hall, who had become a target for animal rights campaigners, because he co-owns the Darley Oaks Farm in Newchurch, which provides guinea pigs for medical research. The Hall family has suffered a long-running hate campaign by animal rights extremists, which included malicious phone calls and arson attacks.
Staffordshire police confirmed that they arrested a 32-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman earlier today in Gloucester. The pair were arrested on suspicion of desecrating Mrs Hammond's grave and removing the remains.
It has also been reported that another three men were arrested later in the morning in the Newchurch area, on suspicion of causing criminal damage. The arrests follow a renewed appeal for information regarding the case, which was shown on BBC1's Crimewatch programme last night. However, police said that today's arrests were a separate development from the Crimewatch appeal.
Two men and a woman arrested in connection with the desecration last year remain on police bail.

Human Remains Found During Search For Missing Woman
Police Scotland have confirmed that human remains have been found during the search for missing 19-year-old Hazel North. A search had been ongoing for Ms North, who was from Dunfermline and has been missing since 04 March. Police have not yet been confirmed if the remains found in Dean Park are those of Ms North.

Children Fire Death Arrests Made
Two men have been arrested in connection with a house fire that killed six children in May, according to Derbyshire Police. The two men, aged 45 and 49, are being questioned over the fire in Victory Road.

Detectives from Operation Brontide have released 18 images of people they want to identify following the serious disorder and violence that was committed in the West End of London on Saturday 26 March. This disorder followed the peaceful TUC March in central London. The pictures are taken from a range of sources, including CCTV in the areas.

Met Granted More Time To Detain Terror Suspect
Police have been granted more time to question a 22-year-old woman arrested in east London in connection with an ongoing counter-terrorism operation. She was arrested on Saturday on suspicion of the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism. Police said they had obtained a warrant of further detention until 13 July.
