Young mother fights for life after Surrey stabbing
A young mother is in a critical condition in hospital after being stabbed in the neck in an apparently random attack in Surrey yesterday.
The 26-year-old woman, who is believed to be from the Bookham area, was attacked by a man as she pushed her two-year-old son in a buggy along Burnhams Road around 4:15pm yesterday.
Police confirmed that she sustained “serious injuries” in the attack and she was taken to St George's Hospital in Tooting, where she remains in a critical condition.
Police are appealing for anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area of Little Bookham Street, Oakenwood and Burnhams Road between 3:30pm and 5pm yesterday afternoon to come forward.
Police said that the woman was tall with brown shoulder-length hair and was wearing a multi-coloured striped top, brown corduroy trousers and grey moccasin shoes at the time of the attack. She was pushing a blue and silver-coloured ‘Graco’ buggy with a blue hood, two front wheels and one rear wheel.
Police said that they did not have a confirmed description of the attacker, but he is thought to be a white man. A weapon has yet to be discovered.
Detective Superintendent Adrian Harper described the attack as “particularly distressing” but stressed that the type of attack was “extremely rare” in that area and said there had been no other similar incidents. He said: “We are urging anyone who may have seen or heard anything to come forward. It is quite secluded and there may well have been dogwalkers around this area, or perhaps a passing motorist.”

Teenager charged over Jodi Jones murder
A 15-year-old youth has been arrested and charged in connection with the murder of Jodi Jones in Dalkeith last June. The teenager was arrested this morning by officers from the Lothian and Borders constabulary. The accused is expected to appear before Edinburgh Sheriff Court tomorrow.

Merseyside Police are appealing for witnesses following the rape of a 16-year-old girl on Saturday. The girl was walking home between 9:30pm and 10pm when she was approached by a man who forced her to waste ground behind St Dunstan Church on Earle Road in Wavertree. The attacker is described as white, aged around 18 or 19 and of slim build.
