Schoolboy’s kidnappers jailed
A gang of kidnappers who abducted a schoolboy and demanded a £40,000 ransom have been jailed.
The four kidnappers – Ravideen Babu, Singh Dhanoa, Amarjit Singh Dhariwar and Avisha Choudhry, all from Southall, west London – abducted the 11-year-old as he returned from school; Middlesex Guildhall Crown Court was told.
The court heard how the boy was held for 26 hours and his life was threatened, while his family received phone calls, which were described as “chilling”, demanding money.
The boy was eventually freed from the gang after one of the members was arrested by police and told them where the boy was being held.
The boy was not harmed physically during his attack, the court was told, but has continued to suffer from panic attacks and nightmares.
All four members of the gang were convicted of conspiracy to kidnap, false imprisonment and blackmail. The gang’s leader, Babu – an illegal immigrant who reportedly planned to purchase a Ferrari with the ransom money – was sentenced to 12 years, while Dhanoa, another illegal immigrant, received six years and Dhariwar received seven years. Choudry, who admitted the charges, was jailed for three-and-a-half years.
