Memorial to Queen Mother planned
Buckingham Palace has announced plans to erect a monument to the Queen Mother.
The £2 million memorial will be located off The Mall in London, near the existing statue of King George VI, the Queen Mother's husband and the Queen's father.
Designers, architects and artists from around the world have been invited to submit designs, which will be judged by a selection panel and the Prince of Wales.
The closing date for submission of initial designs is January 31 and the project is expected to be completed by the summer of 2007.
The project will be funded by the sale of a special £5 coin, produced by the Royal Mint, to celebrate the Queen's 80th birthday this year.
