Man in court over Manchester pub shootings
A 42-year-old man has appeared in court charged in connection with the double murder of two men who were shot dead outside a Manchester pub.
Ian George McLeod, of Victoria Street, Radcliffe appeared at Salford magistrates' court charged with conspiracy to commit murder.
He was remanded in custody to appear at Manchester Crown Square on April 10.
Carlton Alveranga, 20 and Richard Austin, 19 were shot dead outside the Brass Handles bar in Salford on March 12. The pair are understood to have entered the pub, which was packed with fans watching a Manchester United game, and opened fire with guns.
They were then chased out of the pub by locals, who were also armed. They were found dead outside the pub. Both had died from single gunshot wounds to the chest.

A 41-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the March pub shooting in Manchester which left two men dead. The man, who is from south Manchester, was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder by armed police at an address in Radcliffe in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Smoking ban to be enforced early at Wetherspoon pubs
Pub chain, J.D. Wetherspoon have announced that they will ban smoking in all their premises by May 2006, two years before the government restrictions are due to come into force. The pub chain, which already offers non-smoking areas in its bars, will also impose a ban in 60 of its 650 UK pubs this year.
