Rapist jailed for teenager's murder

A convicted rapist who abducted and murdered a 15-year-old girl in south London, before mutilating her body, has been jailed for life.

John McGrady, 48, pleaded guilty to the murder of Rochelle Holness who disappeared last September.

The court heard how McGrady, who was originally from Belfast, abducted the teenager as she went to a phone box in Catford, south London, to phone her boyfriend.

The former butcher strangled Rochelle before dismembering her body. The teenager's mutilated body was discovered in five binbags near a rubbish chute in Milford Towers, Catford, where McGrady lived.

It was not possible to say whether the teenager had been sexually assaulted from the post-mortem.

Rochelle had been missing for three days when McGrady cut his own wrists and admitted what had happened to his then girlfriend who then alerted police.

McGrady has previous convictions for rape, indecent assault and false imprisonment.

At sentencing, Judge Stephen Kramer described McGrady as a "dangerous predator" to women and said that the sentence would ensure that he would "never have the opportunity to prey on young women again".
