World War II bomb found near London airport
The discovery of a suspected unexploded World War II bomb forced London City Airport to close for several hours on Thursday.
The device was discovered around 09.30 BST on Thursday morning in Canning Town.
According to National Air Traffic Services, some flights were able to take off from London City Airport following the initial alert, but all flights had been stopped by midday.
However, the airport later reopened and flights began operating again around 1330 BST.
The discovery of the device also resulted in the suspension of services on the Docklands Light Railway. A controlled explosion was carried out around 1445 BST, after which a full DLR service was able to resume.
