Scottish-born paedophile deported to the UK

A convicted paedophile who was born in Scotland has been deported to the UK by Australian authorities.

William Gallagher, 61, emigrated to Australia more than 30 years ago. He has a history of sex offences against boys dating back to 1973.

He was most recently convicted in 2003 for the indecent assault of a 13-year-old boy at an amusement park in Sydney.

Gallagher flew into Heathrow Airport on Tuesday morning where he was met by officers from the Metropolitan Police.

He will be required to sign the Sex Offenders' Register and information about him will be passed to the police force in the area where he will live.

It is believed that Gallagher may return to Glasgow, where he is known to have relatives.
