Man jailed for multiple stabbing of girlfriend

A man who stabbed his ex-girlfriend 29 times during a camping trip has been jailed for life.

Mark Oldfield, 32, from Devizes in Wiltshire repeatedly stabbed 23-year-old Hayley Cooper while they were camping on Salisbury Plain on September 14 last year.

Salisbury Crown Court heard how Oldfield was high on drink and drugs when he carried out the attack.

Miss Cooper required life-saving surgery after the attack and some of the evidence in the case included digitally-created pictures showing the extent of the injuries she suffered.

Miss Cooper was in court to see Oldfield being sentenced.

Oldfield had pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent at an earlier hearing.
