Two British soldiers killed in Afghanistan
Two British soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan, the Ministry of Defence has confirmed.
The pair are understood to have been on patrol in Sangin in the Helmand province in the south of the country, when they came under attack from suspected Taliban militia.
It is believed that the soldiers were killed in fighting following a rocket grenade attack on a British vehicle patrol.
A third solider was also injured, but his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.
The Ministry of Defence said that the soldiers' families were being informed and that no other information would be released at this time.
Commenting on the news, Defence Secretary Des Browne said: "It is with great sadness that I must confirm the deaths of two of our brave soldiers in Afghanistan. My deepest sympathies are with their families and loved ones."
The soldiers are the second and third UK military personnel to be killed in Afghanistan.
Captain Jim Philippson, of 7 Parachute Regiment Royal Horse Artillery, was the first British soldier to be killed in Afghanistan.
He was killed during fighting with suspected Taliban forces earlier this month.
