Search continues for human remains

Police are continuing to search for human remains at the former home of a convicted paedophile in Croydon, south London.

Leslie Ford-Thrussell, 72, lived at the house in Walton Green for 17 years before he was jailed in 2004 for a number of child sex offences, including rape and indecent assault and taking and making obscene images. He was sentenced to 12 years in prison.

The search will include the excavation of the garden and will involve forensic archaeologists and specialist equipment to survey the plot.

The search follows a year-long investigation after police received an anonymous letter claiming that human remains were buried there following events more than 30 years ago.

Police said that they were prevented from acting on the information in the letter for a number of reasons, including the length of time that it took to identify the author.

No-one has been questioned in connection with the investigation. It has been reported that the author of the letter is being treated as a potential witness.

It is understood that Ford-Thrussell was not living at the house at the time of the alleged events described in the letter.
