Toddler injured in Manchester shooting

A two-year-old boy was injured when shots were fired at a house in North Manchester.

Greater Manchester police said that the child was injured by shards of glass after shots were fired into the truck in which he was sitting in Miles Platting on August 22.

Police were called to Downley Walk shortly before 7pm on Friday after receiving reports that some men with a gun had fired two or three shots towards a house on the street.

However, when police went to the scene, they found that the house had been unaffected by the attack, but the windows of the truck parked outside, in which two young children were playing, had been smashed.

One of the two-year-olds had sustained a small graze to his head, caused by the glass being shattered by the shots. However, the injury was described as minor and the child did not need hospital treatment.

Police said that they believed the shooting was a "targeted attack" by two known offenders. They said that steps had been taken to provide added protection to the family.

Enquiries into the incident are continuing.
