Firefighters suspended over dryer film

Four firefighters have been suspended for their involvement in a prank in which one of them was spun in a tumble dryer.

Andy Bruce, 33, was filmed climbing into the machine at Blackley fire station in Manchester. It was then switched on and Mr Bruce turned several times inside it, while colleagues were heard laughing in the background.

The footage was later published on the internet.

The incident had been condemned by senior officers as dangerous and foolish.

Mr Bruce, from Radcliffe, Bury, has apologised for taking part in the prank and said that he was complying fully with an internal investigation.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that four firefighters had been suspended pending the outcome of a disciplinary hearing.

Deputy County Fire Officer Tony Proctor said: "Following interviews with the four firefighters involved, due to the seriousness of the incident, the decision has been taken to suspend the firefighters pending the outcome of the disciplinary hearing."
