Murray beats Federer in straight sets
Andy Murray has notched up his finest win of his career by beating world No. 1 Roger Federer in straight sets.
The Scottish tennis ace beat Federer 7-5 6-4 to win the Cincinnati Masters, despite suffering from a slight hand injury.
Talking after the match, Murray said he did not feel nervous and “went with it.”
He said: “I just felt it was my time to win against him.”
Murray's coach Brad Gilbert had advised Murray to soak a blistered hand in a pickle jar for a few minutes to harden the skin. The alternative, according to Murray was "weeing on the injury", but he said he wasn't keen on that particular solution.
The win for Murray marks the end of a 55 match, 18 tournament run for Federer on the US hard court circuit. The only other player in the world to beat Federer this year is No.2 ranked Rafael Nadal.
Murray now faces Robby Ginepri in the third round on Thursday.
