Second TV appeal over mother's murder
The murder of Bournemouth mother-of-two Heather Barnett is to feature on BBC One's 'Crimewatch' programme this week for the second successive time.
The body of Mrs Barnett, 48, was found in the bathroom of her home in Charminster on November 12, 2002.
She had been hit over the head and stabbed to death.
Her body had also been mutilated and she was found with strands of hair that did not belong to her.
Last month's 'Crimewatch' programme staged a reconstruction of the moment when Mrs Barnett's children - Terry, then aged 14, and Caitlin, then aged 11 - discovered their mother's body.
This month's show, which will be shown on Wednesday night, will feature new developments in the cut hair aspect of the murder investigation.
CCTV footage of a man leaving the murder scene - believed to be the killer - will also be shown again during the programme.
Detective Superintendent Phil James from Dorset Police said that 485 calls had been received from viewers following the last edition of 'Crimewatch' - one of the largest ever responses to a case in the history of the programme.
He said: "The BBC has taken the unusual step of including the case in its 'Crimewatch' programme for a second successive time because of the massive response from viewers to a case that is four years old - and because it's a chance for that momentum to be carried forward.
"This week's 'Crimewatch' will feature fresh information as a result of last month's programme - including the cut hair element of the investigation - as well as focusing in on areas about which the public's phone calls proved particularly useful."
'Crimewatch' will be shown on BBC One on November 1 at 9pm.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact Dorset Police on: 01202 222 222 or Crimestoppers anonymously on: 0800 555 111.
