High Court reject de Menzes case
The family of the Brazilian shot dead by police officers has been dealt a blow by the High Court rejection of the case brought against officers involved in the shooting.
Jean Charkes de Menezes was shot seven times in the head on July 22, 2005 after he had been mistakenly identified as a suicide bomber at London's Stockwell tube station.
The family's legal team had brought the case on the grounds that if no one officer was responsible for the death then the rule of law had failed.
Today three senior High Court judges ruled that the case was being rejected on all grounds.
The judges found that a decision against ordering prosecutions on the grounds that they were likely to fail was "reasonable".
The court in a written judgement ruled that there had been no violation of human rights.
Lawyers for the de Menezes family said that they would be seeking to take the case to the house of Lords.
