Girl 'critical' after air rifle shooting
A 16-year-old girl is in a critical, but stable, condition in hospital after being shot in the face with an air rifle on New Year's Day.
The teenager, who has not been named, suffered serious injuries in the incident, which happened at an address in Paulton, Somerset shortly before 6am on Monday morning.
She is currently in hospital in Bristol, where her condition is understood to be critical, but stable.
Nineteen-year-old Dean Durbin - reported to be the teenager's boyfriend - was arrested and charged with assault causing grievous bodily harm and possession of an air weapon whilst being a prohibited person.
He was remanded in custody at Bath Magistrates' Court on Tuesday and is due to reappear in court on January 8.

Teenager Critical After Liverpool Bus Accident
A fifteen-year-old boy is in a critical condition in Alder Hey Hospital in Liverpool after being hit by a bus in the city on Tuesday night. Police said the teenager suffered serious head injuries when he was hit by a bus at about 19:55 on Tuesday night.

Ninth body recovered from Glasgow factory
The body of a ninth person has been found at the Glasgow factory which was destroyed by an explosion on Tuesday afternoon. Rescuers believe that they have now recovered all the bodies from the Stockline Plastics building. Strathclyde police chief superintendent David Christie announced at 11.

Local Air Traffic Control Applauded
The successfully-run British Isles-wide system of airspace control was this week held up as an example of best practice in dealing with air navigation. Ireland's Minister for Transport, Noel Dempsey has called on Europe to look at how the UK and Ireland cooperate in air navigation, after the disruption caused by the volcanic ash plume.
