Over 30 burned in Teesside chemical leak
A leak of a toxic chemical at an industrial plant in Teesside has resulted in one person being seriously burned and others requiring treatment for skin burns and breathing difficulties.
One person has been taken to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle, and over 30 others are reported to suffered skin burns and respiratory problems caused by the leak of the toxic substance at the BASF plant near Billingham, Teesside. Nine people have been taken to James Cook University Hospital, while seven people have been treated at North Tees Hospital.
Cleeveland Fire Brigade responded to the scene with a decontamination unit following the leak.
The substance thought to have caused the incident is HMD, which is used in the production of synthetic polymer compounds.

Half of Britons Get Sunburnt
Almost half of Britons got sunburnt this year and many of them would risk burning again in order to get a tan, a new survey has revealed. The research, commissioned by Superdrug and Cancer Research UK, found that 46 per cent of those surveyed got sunburnt this summer, with 32 per cent of those admitting that they do so in their pursuit of a tan.

Fire Fighters Hurt As Bolton House Fire Kills Woman
Three fire fighters have been injured - one of them being seriously burned - as they rescued an elderly woman from a house fire in Bolton. The 71-year-old victim later died, but three other people's lives were saved after being rescued from the blaze, a man in his 70s, a 24-year-old woman and a five-year-old girl.

Crippled Iraqi boy receives treatment in Kuwait
A 12-year-old boy who lost both arms and was severely burned when a bomb struck his home in Baghdad has arrived in Kuwait for treatment. Ali Ismail Abbas lost both parents and sustained his terrible injuries during a US air raid two weeks ago. As facilities at Baghdad were limited, Ali was transferred to a specialist unit for treatment.
