Security alert at Edinburgh airport ends
An emergency security alert at Edinburgh airport has ended.
The airport was evacuated shortly after midday following the discovery of a suspicious rucksack in the check-in area.
However, the rucksack, which is believed to have been discovered shoved into the top of a bin, was blown up in a controlled explosion.
Airport operator BAA said that the airport had now re-opened and operations were returning to normal.
However, passengers checking in at the airport are advised to expect delays on departing flights and to check the status of their flight with their airline.
Heavy congestion is also expected on roads near the airport and delays are expected. Passengers are also advised to allow extra time for their journey to and from the airport.
