Police identify man shot in Halifax

Police have identified a man who was found suffering from gunshot wounds in a street in Halifax.

Mian Shahid Mehmood, 29, was found by passers-by in Great Edge Road in the Warley area shortly before 8pm on Saturday night. He was taken to Calderdale Royal Infirmary, where he died a short time later. A post-mortem revealed that he died from gunshot wounds.

Mr Mehmood is from Pakistan and is believed to have been living in the UK since early last year. He was married with no children.

A murder investigation has been launched and the area where Mr Mehmood was discovered has been sealed off and forensic searches are continuing.

Three people have been arrested for questioning following the murder. They are a 57-year-old man, a 16-year-old male youth and a 42-year-old woman, all from the Halifax area.

Two addresses in Halifax have also been sealed off as part of the investigation and are now being searched.

Detective Superintendent Tim Forber from West Yorkshire Police said: "Whilst we are keeping an open mind regarding the possible motive for the murder of Mr Mehmood, we do suspect this was a targeted attack.

"I would like anyone who saw Mr Mehmood or had any contact with him over last weekend to contact us. We are also keen to speak to anyone who was in the area of Great Edge Road or Butts Green Road between 7pm and 9pm on Sunday 11th February."

Man Dies After Coming Into Contact With 'Noxious Substance'

Police were called to Burpham Court Farm in Guildford at around 1am. They discovered the man in his 50s suffering from breathing difficulties.
