FA Cup final to be held at Wembley stadium
This year's FA Cup final will be held at the new Wembley Stadium on May 19, the Football Association has confirmed.
Brent Council has awarded the stadium with its General Safety Certificate following the successful completion of two test events - a Community Day and last Saturday's Under-21 game between England and Italy.
The certificate means that Wembley can now host events with up to 90,000 spectators, after the two 'ramp-up' games were attended by around 34,000 and 56,000.
This year will be the first time that the FA Cup final will have been held in London since 2000.
Commenting on the news that the FA Cup final will be played at the new stadium, FA Chief Executive Brian Barwick said: "It's the announcement that a lot of people have been waiting for and is great news for football fans in this country and indeed the world over.
"The Cup Final and Wembley Stadium go hand in hand and everybody at the FA is looking forward to a great day."
